Neeki & Matei’s Elegant InterContinental Buckhead Wedding
In a glamorous black-tie affair, Neeki and Matei celebrated a wedding that was a long time coming.
The Atlanta couple first met at the Atlanta International School in 2007. After a series of middle school squabbles, they called a truce in ninth grade and soon became best friends, even attending prom together (just as friends at the time!). In a stroke of fate, they moved into the same dorm building their freshman year at Georgia Tech. After years of friendship, running marathons together, traveling abroad, and more, they finally began officially dating in 2019—over 10 years after their fateful friendship began. In December 2021, Matei proposed to Neeki at the Swan Coach House in Atlanta.
To honor Neeki and Matei’s diverse cultures and upbringings, their wedding incorporated elements of Iranian, Romanian and American traditions. The couple chose the stately InterContinental Buckhead Atlanta hotel for this grand celebration. This renowned hotel epitomizes Southern sophistication, featuring newly renovated rooms, rose marble lobby floors, hand-blown crystal custom ceiling fixtures, and large-scale abstract artwork by local mixed-media artist Niki Zarrabi adorning the walls.
The couple’s aghd ceremony unfolded amidst the venue’s crystal chandelier-illuminated Venetian Ballroom. A lush floral aisle led to the altar, which featured a lavish Sofra table—an iconic element in Persian weddings symbolizing abundance and blessings. From canopy sugar rubbing to dipping their fingers in honey, the couple embraced tradition, making their ceremony sweet and meaningful.
Following the aghd, celebrations continued in the InterContinental’s Windsor Ballroom. This lobby-level ballroom, with its 20-foot ceilings, mirrored finishes and grand cupola, provided a magnificent setting. Planner Brian Green and florist Utopian Events transformed the space into a luxurious garden in shades of white and cream. All-white florals and décor provided a classic backdrop for the bride, groom, and their loved ones to infuse the space with their own personality and vibrance.
In every corner, love and celebration intertwined – from the traditional Persian ceremony to the lively dance floor filled with laughter and rhythm. As the last notes of the DJ echoed through the ballroom, it was evident that this celebration’s fusion of tradition and personal flair created a radiant experience for all.
