Destination Wedding Venues

Maybe it’s because you live up North and you’re tired of the snow or maybe you just want to turn your wedding into a vacation. There’s no bad reason for choosing a destination wedding!

Though when most people think of a “destination wedding venue”, their minds drift to white sand, blue skies, and palm trees, destination weddings aren’t necessarily tropical. There are many destination venues with panoramic views of majestic mountains, or historic homes tucked away in little towns (think the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC), so don’t think you have to limit yourself to flying south if you want a destination wedding. And don’t limit yourself to only the big resorts either. Find an area that you love and check out the smaller venues around for something a little more individual.

So since your options are so varied for a destination venue, here are a couple of tips to get you started on your planning. Try to book in the off-season for better deals. You don’t necessarily have to be right in the middle of the off-season, but avoid the busy season by a few weeks on either side for some serious savings. Check with the venue, however, to make sure that all activities, caterers, and vendors will still be available. Sometimes, a venue will discontinue a few of their amenities during their slow time.

Make a few decisions before you commit to your destination. If you’re planning on a fairly large wedding, that might limit your options as to where you can go. If there will be kids involved, a larger hotel or resort might more easily provide child-care options or activities to keep the little ones entertained. If you’re going to want to be really, really hands on with all the details, find a venue who is well established in the wedding business. It’ll be easier to deal with someone trained in the planning process than with just a catering coordinator or concierge.

Wherever you decide to go, a destination venue will provide a romantic and peaceful opportunity to get away from the hustle and bustle of life and just focus on each other.  Now, it’s time to book a wedding photographer who is willing to travel!
