Beneath the Spanish Moss: A Savannah Wedding for Jason and Jess
The beauty and grace of Savannah served as the backdrop for Jess and Jason’s summer wedding. The city became the guest of honor, as it allowed their desired southern-meets-Bohemian aesthetic to shine.
The couple wanted to have a small wedding, but with the energy of a large wedding. “Savannah was the obvious choice for us,” said the couple. Jess had spent some time in the area during and after college and Jason had lived in Savannah while serving for the US Army. “We both love the town and the mystical feel is unmatchable,” said Jason.
The couple arranged for the entire wedding party to stay at the McMillan Inn. The wedding party and company had the historic bed and breakfast all to themselves, adding an extra special intimacy to the wedding weekend. Not only were the accommodations charming, but the central location within Savannah’s Historic District placed everyone right in the heart of the city.
This very-Savannah weekend officially kicked off with a rehearsal dinner in the new Plant Riverside District’s Stone & Webster Chophouse. Dinner was followed by tone-setting barhopping along the Savannah River.
For the ceremony, what better a Savannah location than in Lafayette Square under the iconic Spanish Moss? Partially inspired by imagery of Forest Gump, Lafayette Square painted a similar picture.
Following the ceremony, a night of joy awaited at the reception venue: 10 Downing at Churchill’s. With its rooftop bar and dance floor, the vibes were unbeatable. “We spent the entire evening after dinner dancing under the Savannah stars on a rooftop one block away from the river. The atmosphere was electric,” Jason recalled.
Even after the dance floor cleared and the wedding party returned to the B&B, the weekend wasn’t quite finished. Tying a bow on the experience, the wedding crew carried on festivities into the next day by loading up a Savannah trolley and heading to Tybee Island for a beach day. We couldn’t think of a more fitting way to complete a quintessential Savannah wedding weekend.
