You already have acne from the stress of planning a wedding during a pandemic and now you have to deal with maske, too? Don’t worry! Here are five ways to keep maskne to a minimum and ensure you look your best on the big day.
A new issue has arisen during the pandemic – maskne. Masks have become an everyday accessory (at least for now). And, wearing them every day causes oil and bacteria to get trapped on your face resulting in more acne breakouts.
Patty McGuire, owner of Patty McGuire Hair & Makeup Artists, says the best skin care routine leading up to your wedding day during these mask-wearing times is one that involves consistency and gentle, quality products that keep your skin hydrated and naturally radiant. The following are her steps for a simple, easy-to-follow skin care routine.
1. Cleanse your face with a gentle cleanser day and night.
Make sure you thoroughly remove your makeup every night by adding an all-in-one gentle facial cleanser and makeup remover to your nighttime ritual. The ease of use an all-in-one product provides helps to ensure you use it daily. Look for a product that moisturizes the skin, but doesn’t contain harsh chemicals or other irritants.
2. Use a gentle exfoliant.
Your exfoliator should polish the skin by removing pore-clogging dead skin cells without aggravating the fresh skin cells below. Exfoliate daily so your moisturizer can more easily and effectively permeate your skin for a softer, smoother complexion.
3. Moisturize day and night.
Apply moisturizer before applying makeup and going bed each day. This simple habit can help prevent dehydration, while protecting your skin from environmental damage, minimizing the appearance of fine lines and prepping the surface of your skin for a better, more even makeup application.
4. Get a facial from an expert once a month.
Pinpoint an esthetician who can help create an individualized plan for you that involves custom treatments designed to keep your pores clean, and your skin bright and vibrant. These professionals specialize in skin-enhancing facials that provide a deeper pore cleansing, which is important due to masks trapping pore-clogging oils and bacteria in our skin.
5. Wear disposable face masks once.
Regularly replace disposable face masks to avoid bacteria and oils clogging the pores. If you wear a cloth mask, be sure to clean the mask often, especially if you are wearing makeup underneath it.
