Toni & Malik’s Underwater Affair
An underwater dreamscape at the Georgia Aquarium came to life to honor the special marriage between Toni and Malik.
This love story all started on one bored evening where Malik was browsing social media. When he saw Toni’s gorgeous face on her profile, he could not resist asking her out on a date. Malik planned a lovely date at a rooftop bar at a historic hotel. The evening was beautiful…but Toni was cold. So from there, Malik and Toni took a grand tour of five different restaurants throughout the city until Toni was satisfied. To this day, Malik cannot believe he did that, but true love makes you lose your senses sometimes!
Malik grew up on Long Island in New York, but moved down south to Atlanta upon graduating high school to attended Morehouse College. After receiving his degree, Malik moved to Washington, D.C., where he works as a CPA and, most importantly, where he met Toni. Toni grew up in Stone Mountain, Georgia just east of Atlanta. She attended Oglethorpe University for her bachelor’s degree and then went on to receive her Juris Doctorate from Howard University School of Law and masters degree from Georgetown University. Some would say this couple has it all – beauty and brains!
So when it came to planning this couple’s wedding, it needed to be just as beautiful as the couple themselves. They arrived at the theme of an elegant, underwater wonderland. To bring this marine vision sea-level, Edge Design infused complementary pops of pink and purple as the florals.
When looking for a venue, they really wanted a “wow” factor and a space that was as unique as the couple themselves. And Georgia Aquarium checked all of those boxes. One of their first vacations together, the couple went on a scuba-diving trip to the Maldives. Since the couple bonded over a love of sea life, they wanted to bring that experience to their guests. Beyond the venue itself, one other way they added to the glimmering, underwater experience was with glass accents. The mirrored bars, mirrored stationery and a mirrored photo booth truly made for a romantic and reflective feeling.
Capping the night off with a kick, Toni and Malik stayed true to their cultural roots with a performance from a Caribbean Junkanoo group. It was important for the couple to include cultural elements such as this into their wedding. One last cultural detail came with their party favors, which included mini White Hennessy bottles and custom shot glasses, which can only be purchased in the Caribbean.
