Megan & Alex’s Warm and Magical Fairytale
Photos by Kim Hymes Photography
After returning to Georgia from a semester at the Disney College Program in Florida, Megan was intrigued by a new member of her bible study group. She’d been away and missed the arrival of Alex, a young man Megan described as “tall, dark and handsome”…a real-life Disney prince! Upon first meeting, the two hit it off and started a great friendship as the basis of their blossoming relationship.
To secure their status as soon-to-be-weds, Alex planned a sunrise proposal near Lake Lanier. Megan suspected something was up when Alex pitched a date with a 6:30 a.m. start time. Megan’s suspicions were confirmed when the couple arrived at a romantic white tent and rose petal set-up. There, Alex asked the Big Question and, of course, Megan said, “Yes!”
To reflect their relationship, Megan and Alex’s wedding was romantic and warm. Having a shared friend group, the couple was able to keep the guest list small and create an intimate environment. Certainly elegance as an overarching theme for the day, but the couple also wanted to evoke a welcoming and homey feel. To do this, cozy blankets were given to guests to keep warm during the outdoor ceremony, candles were aglow throughout, and the menu was full of elevated comfort foods (short rib, chicken and whipped buttermilk potatoes, oh my!)
The couple chose Little River Farms in Alpharetta, GA as their venue, thanks to its “grand home” feel and the ability to have an outdoor gazebo ceremony, but an indoor ballroom reception. Soft lighting, traditional white molding and textured stone accents created an inviting yet elegant atmosphere. As a result, guests felt comfortable and relaxed, yet elevated touches established the day as a special moment in time.
While traditional themes were incorporated, the couple added touches of personality as well. With Disney World being a special place for Megan and Alex, Alex wore Mickey Mouse socks with his tuxedo. Disney emerged again with a Magic Castle guest book and “Cinderella Blue” accents in the florals, bridesmaid dresses and stationary. The final dip and kiss with a sparkler exit sealed the wedding’s status as truly magical.
What started as an overcast day ended up creating a beautiful environment as the sunset glowed behind the clouds. With a proposal at sunrise and “I dos” at sunset, there certainly is a warm glow encompassing all this couple touches. Talk about a “Happily Ever After.”
