Amanda & Thieu’s Garden Wedding Rooted in Asian Tradition
Amanda and Thieu wanted their wedding day to feel like stepping into a romantic garden party — an afternoon wrapped in flowers, softened by spring light and elevated with intentional elegance. Set at Atlanta’s Callanwolde Fine Arts Center, their vision came to life as a thoughtful blend of American, Vietnamese and Chinese traditions.
The two met during Amanda’s first year of medical school and Thieu’s first year of dental school, beginning a relationship shaped by long hours and shared ambition. Over the next three and a half years, they grew side by side through the demands of professional school. After a romantic proposal in the Maldives, the couple remained engaged for two and a half years, partly due to the intensity of medical residency. Rather than feeling rushed, that extended engagement became a gift. “That time also gave us the space to grow even more as a couple and cherish our time together,” Amanda shared.
While the couple initially dreamed of a destination wedding in Europe, the realities of surgical residency made planning abroad unrealistic. When they discovered Callanwolde Fine Arts Center through their planner, it felt like the perfect alternative: a European escape right in the heart of Atlanta. Its historic architecture, manicured gardens and old-world details set the tone, while soft spring florals and painterly pastel hues brought the garden-party vision to life. Pink and blush blooms, airy textures and romantic tablescapes added warmth to the classic space. But beyond aesthetics, the venue’s flexibility for outside catering also allowed Amanda and Thieu to honor what mattered most by incorporating the Asian cuisine that was essential to their celebration.
Ultimately, Amanda and Thieu’s wedding was an intentional blending of heritage, family and the journey that brought them here. Set within a garden-inspired backdrop, the day honored where they come from while quietly celebrating what lies ahead.
