How to Incorporate Kids

Whether you have children already, younger siblings or are a blended family, including the kids most special to you in your wedding day is important. While a full wedding day might not be thrilling to a little one, use these options to make sure all your guests — no matter their age — feel welcomed and ready to celebrate.

CEREMONY ROLES

Depending on the child’s personality and outgoingness, inviting them to speak in the ceremony is a fun touch. This can be as complex as having them prepare a speech or simply having them read a poem or scripture. And of course, we can’t forget the crucial role of being a flower girl or ring bearer!

CUPCAKES

Traditionally, it is common for weddings to have a dedicated cake for both spouses. Feel free to keep the two cakes, but also have a kids’ cake — or even cupcakes! Any excuse to have a funfetti cake and some sprinkles, right?

ENTERTAINMENT

Let’s be honest, weddings might be arduous to some kids! Give the day some extra fun by offering games and activities. This can include wedding- themed coloring pages and word searches, an I-Spy Bingo board, kid-friendly snack packs or backyard games.

CAKE TASTING

This might be the kids’ favorite part of the whole wedding process! Inviting them to your cake tasting will let them know they are involved in the wedding and that their opinions are valued in this marriage.

DECORATORS

What could be sweeter than crayon-illustrated table name cards? If your wedding has a more relaxed air to it, don’t be afraid to let your children join in on the decorating. This could mean giving them the task of sprinkling flower petals/confetti throughout or allowing them to get creative in outfitting the photo booth. Kids are great at thinking outside of the box, so you might as well tap into that creativity!
